Cheap Bastards Club

Justine Larson introduces the 'cheap bastards club'

The ¢b¢ is a very exclusive club. Our motto is “too cheap for capitalization”. Founded in 1998 there are two officers in the cheap bastards club: my friend Victor Teigen and myself. Both of us are frugal. I don’t like to shop either. We were always on the look out for an inexpensive lunch and other bargains.  We started joking about being such cheap bastards. I decided we would start a club. It’s not a real club but it is very popular. The club comes up in conversation at least once a week. Sometimes Victor will call it the Cheap Bugger Club, thinking the word Bastard shouldn’t be used in polite company. I have to remind him that Bugger is much worse. More often he will call me up with news of a bargain he picked up. Both my nephews want to join, although they’re not very frugal. The are convinced this is a real club with a set of rules. They want to know what they have to do to join. They are not convinced it has anything to do with saving money.

It’s not that we won’t spend money, it’s that most things aren’t worth the money. I would like to mention you can’t be a cbc member if you have no money. That’s not being cheap, that’s being broke. You have to have money but refuse to spend it to be in the cbc.

Lately I’ve started to loosen up my wallet. This bad economy offer more deals, the stock market is diving, and the Obama administration is starting up the printing presses. If I didn’t spend it now, it the government is going to make my savings worthless.
